Color The World Orange will be an annual event held the first Monday of November each year to spread awareness of CRPS/RSD.
To spread awareness, this movement has been created to try and bring awareness of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, also know as Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy. This will be a day for the whole community: family, friends, and patients. Joining together and showing that even though we are in pain, we are strong.
Here are some ideas of how to do this:
Wear it loud and proud:
Get your employer involved:
Another idea we had here at RSD/CRPS Doesn’t Own Me (RCDOM) is to reach out to your supervisors and/or company human resources departments. Ask them encourage coworkers on this day to wear orange instead of wearing jeans in the popular “jean day.” If you are unfamiliar with this, this is an event used by companies to bring in donations. In return for the dollar, employees are allowed an opportunity to relax a little in the work environment and give them opportunity to wear something they otherwise could not per human resources policies.
Now, if your employer is willing or interested in donating the money received for this event, RCDOM is working with RSDSA to arrange a document with the information you can provide to your employer so that proceeds can be donated to the cause. This page will be updated to reflect any information received, so check back.
But while we wait for that information. If your employer should ask about the condition itself, you can provide them with the following information:
CRPS/RSD is a chronic pain disorder that is ranked as the most painful condition on the McGill Pain Index. The key symptom is continuous, intense pain, often described as burning, that is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury. There may be as many as 50,000 new cases of CRPS/RSD diagnosed each year.
